The higher the price of a stock, such as Google, the more it can and does fluctuate.
stocks that cost a lot per share such as Goldman sachs which is right now at 122. 00, fluctuate high and low. Sometimes they will go up 5. 00, but other times go lower that amount. Stocks around 1-10$ usually go up and down in cents.
In terms of $$, $1 or 2$$ doesn’t mean the same thing for a $10 stock as it does for a $100 stock.
If you’re looking for volatility, the usual measure is called “beta”. Beta scores above 1 indicate higher than average volatility (with respect to market fluctuation) and below 1 the opposite.
It’s not beta, it’s alpha. Stocks with a high alpha have higher volatility. Beta measures the stock’s correlation to a certain index.
What you are looking for is what is called the stock’s Average True Range or ATR. Most basic charting software or website will give this value. High value means the stock fluctuates a lot on average. Good luck.
