What are the benifets of being a shareholder (owning stocks) in a company?

Okay, I know if you own stocks then you own a part of a company. . but why do this? What is the benifet? Does the value of the stock go up as time goes on? Or is it that the more stocks you have the more valueable ur share is? I don’t get why someone would own stocks? Explain please.

  1. Its just an investment. Buy low sell high basic really and get the dividends as you wait.
