Where would be the best place or site to learn in laments terms about investing?

I have 300 dollars I’m saving for a Revolution to pre-order around May. I was wondering if it would be wise to invest it until May, if I would actually have some return, or if I should just hold on to it. I’d also like to learn about investing.

  1. Laments terms might be too depressing. But learning in laymans terms might be what you’re looking for. :-)

  2. 6 weeks seem to be a bit short to make a fortune from 300 $. For longer term, I recommend reading, reading, reading. A good starting point could be:

    There are 100’s of free subscriptions to eMail Investment Newsletters on the Internet. If you are scared about spam, use e. g. Yahoo Mail and install Alias-accounts which you simply can delete in case you don’t want any longer receive mail from a sender.

  3. For such a short time period the best is a savings account. There are several internet-based savings accounts that will give you a few %. ING Direct currently yields 4% per year. So on your $300 for 6 weeks you would make a dollar or two in interest.

    What you could do to start investing is not to get that Revolution and instead make the $300 the start of your investing capital. Then when you get $1,000 or so you could start investing in mutual funds. If you have more than $10,000, investing in individual stocks is possible without too many fees.

    Before then, you’ll have all the time you need to learn about investing.
